shout out to korea!!
so here's to korea. korea, the brave penisula. so as y'all know, i'm here in dental school at columbia. and well, columbia loves its diversity. so by that i mean we have x amount of states and y amount of countries represented. but the truth is, there is a predominant korean population. korea is so hot right now. for real, being korean is soo in. korea is the new black. if you wanna be hip this season, be korean. i don't get it. i mean the japanese had their day. prolly back in the eighties, with everybody kung fu fighting (yes, i know, that's chinese, but the eighties didn't know any better), bands like shonen knife, songs like "i think i'm turning japanese" and "domo arigato mr. roboto" (shout out to alien robots.) were getting serious play. i guess we had our day in the sun, the ever "rising sun," but now, its time to pass the wand to our neighbors to the west across the JAPAN sea. so here's to you korea. you're so hot right now.
so, pardon my sporadic spasms of thought. onto the topic at hand. korea. 60% christian. i wonder how that compares to the states' statistics. interesting things going on in the penisula these days. and i'm not talking about the vertically challenged nuclear weapons procurer. i'm talking about a much smaller item with potentially grand implications. stem cells. now, being a faith-guided individual, i find the current situation in korea intriguing. some time ago, a world-leading korean stem cell researcher had to confess to the public that he had used questionable means in the acquisition of eggs necessary to continue his stem cell research. however, subsequent to this tragic announcement, women from all over the country volunteered in great numbers to donate their eggs to the cause. and he was and will quickly be restored to his quasi-national hero status hereafter. i find this situation very interesting. where on one side of the pacific, bush found support from the christian right to impede the very exploration that scores of women from a predominantly christian country anxiously support. could it be that in the grand advancemnet of knowledge in this information age god would support greater scientific discovery towards the alleviation of sufferers? could this research be quicken as it will by the light from above? do faith-based initiatives fall on both sides of this dispute? if america were to change its direction, how much quicker could we spring open the door of discovery? or should we maintain status quo? while i don't pretend to have the answers, it remains a demanding dichotomy nonetheless.

Petey,
Once again you have initiated an insightful debate or presented a thought provoking question in the least. I am not sure which side of this argument I support because I can understand the implications of both sides. Is it right or wrong? I don't know that I can make that judgement call. Personally, if I thought that stem cell research would lead to a cure for incurable diseases such as Parkinson's or Huntington's, then I would definitely support the initiative. But my limited knowledge on the issue prevents me from being solid in my declaration. It sure gives me something to think about...

When does "Korea" get home?

aimee-
none of your korean business...

aimee: how about you add something to the debate instead of coming all ad hominem on petey?
petey: orrin hatch supports it. if orrin hatch supports it, then the church must support it. orrin hatch is practically a general authority and i'm sure he talked to the prophet about it. he must talk to the prophet about everything before he does anything. the same thing with harry reid. if they are mormon and a politician, then i support anything they say. anything less would be unfaithful, right?

I support stem cell research in most its permutations. When does the spirit enter the body? What is God's will? Questions that are often nebulous. Certainly nebulous on this topic. Until more certain light is shed, it seems a sad loss to prohibit an area of scientific progress with such potentially huge gains.

Aimee-
I liked the question "When does Korea get home?" We all know that's what spurred this latest blog anyway. Stem cell research, that's just an excuse to post some complex inner feelings... :)

your moms nebulous....wait...that's my mom. i mean you are nebulous...or at least the way talk is...um...nebu...leave me alone.

paul (disco king) and stevey-
thanks for the respect. i appreciate you on-topic comments. stevey, if we can't throw our blind faith behind our leaders (politicians) who can we trust to lead us astray... uh, i mean lead us ahead?
didn't you love orin in traffic?

clever. but please, as if my agenda would be that obvious... any writer worth his/her salt cannot afford such blatant conspicuousity. done in a manner that the likes of the two of you would not be able to have purge out the meaning beneath my words.
in other words, little wise sherlocks, try again.

spoken like a true writer...a lot of big words to create ambiguity. But it's true... a writer's agenda cannot be so obvious unless their talent and skills are a bit mediocre. Bravo on the elusiveness.

all i have to say is that i support orrin's beautifully written music and that should be enough to inspire anyone to support stem cell research. if i could i would give his cd's away for all my christmas surprises to dearly beloved friends and family. I mean...what better gift could one ask for?

being that we are two girls that know peter pretty to very well, i think we both know what is on his mind this holiday break. just look at his choice of picture. come on!
peter-

why do you insanely insist with insinuating comments in regards to my intentions??
if you only knew the true message behind the words. the foolish reader will be misled by messages with the intent to mislead.
try again my friend. although, i fear you lack the capacity to extract what is "not being said" here, but instead your myoptic view dominates your interpretive prowess...
9/12/05 7:44 PM
yeah...your myoptic view. and your mom's myoptic view.

wop yeah

Once again you have initiated an insightful debate or presented a thought provoking brainfart of idiocy. I am not sure which side of this argument I support because I think both sides are absolutely ridiculous. is it stupid or stupidest? I think that I can make that judgment call: stupidest. Personally, if I thought that stem cell research would lead to such a stupid comment about such a trivial stupid blog, then I would definitely support the idea that humans are innately retarded and that there are such things as stupid questions. But, my limited knowledge on stupids prevents me from being solid in my declaration. It sure makes me feel stupid though...
...and I love your body so much.
I'm just kidding. I think your body is gross...but I do love you and miss you and am excited to eat lots of nabe with you and laugh all night long about this nikki girl who keeps writing stupid stuff on your blog.
