looking for some gospel?

this weekend will open a new era in harlem gospel. so for all of you in the city looking for something to do to liven up your weekend come check it out. the information is listed in the picture above. but the church has built a new beautiful building in harlem and the open house is this weekend. this building a spacious 5-story building designed by the temple committee, will house the two new congregations in the area.

the church has grown tremendously in manhattan in recent years with landmark moments like the opening of the manhattan temple on 66 and columbus, this new harlem building, the continuing construction of another new building on the upper east side, that will become the new stake center, and more housing for byu and university of utah students and church office buildings in the union square area. so there is a lot going on here in the city resultant of tons of growth. nonetheless, the open house this weekend should be something special, with a variety of unique events and activities like the gopsel music presentations. so come check it out if you're around.

What an exciting time to be in New York. How far is this building from the main Columbia Campus. I am always interested in Church architecture in the urban setting and how different it becomes from the suburban buildings in Utah. However, at the University of Chicago, they still built a suburban style building.

it's on 128th street and malcom x blvd, which puts it right above the north side of central park by about 10 are so streets. columbia main campus is about 116th and over about 5 ave from central park. so it's probably like a 10-15 min walk. haven't been there yet, so i'm not sure about the architecture minus what you can see on the posted picture.

I have to agree with Stephen... although I did see you on Sunday, which was really the highlight of my day. I never see you either, so maybe this is the most effective way to carry on our friendship/triangle relationship...if only I could get Liz on here too it would be perfect. I linked your blog to mine... but I was kind of hoping for an update today...

the Harlem Open House rocked... thanks for making me stay even when I was in a bad mood. I was glad I stayed. The Harlem Boys Choir was fantastic, and I would have been mad had I missed it... still waiting for the update...

Pete, or Steve,

Dad and I need some clarification. Is washington Heights considered part of Harlem? or is is just WH? i thought Harlem was the whole upper end of the island but dad says it's only on the east side. who is right?

you're actually both wrong. harlem is not just east side, but it also does not stretch up to the heights. hence, we live in the heights.

Boundaries: The East Harlem/El Barrio (Spanish Harlem) community stretches from First Avenue to Fifth Avenue and from East 96th Street to East 125th Street. Central Harlem stretches from Central Park North to the Harlem River and from Fifth Avenue to St. Nicholas Avenue. West Harlem, including Hamilton Heights and Sugar Hill, stretches from 123rd to 155th Streets and from St. Nicholas Avenue to the Hudson River.
